The Geforce RTX 5000 series is now out with Nvidia releasing its flagship RTX 5090 Founders Edition.
New year and a new generation of graphics cards is finally here! Nvidia is inaugurating the graphics card year with the company’s very lavish flagship Geforce RTX 5090 Founders edition. Some people have already received it and soon we will have the benchmark and comparisons with the previous generation RTX 4090. The Founders Edition version of the card promises absolute top-class performance in combination with a lavish cooler.

Quick Summary about RTX 5090 Founders edition card :
The Geforce RTX 5090 is a very expensive graphics card that delivers gaming performance in the absolute top class. The card is across the board faster than its predecessor Geforce RTX 4090, however how much faster varies from game to game. Although the Geforce RTX 5090 is a graphics card that impresses in many ways, the difference in performance compared to the RTX 4090 is not large enough when it comes to the pricing of the card. The Geforce RTX 5090 offers top-class gaming performance and excellent energy efficiency at a sky-high price

Positive aspects:

  1. Top class gaming performance
  2. Top class ray tracing performance
  3. 2-slot cooler
  4. Excellent energy efficiency.

Negative aspects:

  1. Expensive
  2. The card runs hotter than RTX 4090

The sales of RTX 5090 will start on 30th January and at the same time the partner cards will also be launched for sale. However, the number of units would be limited at the sales start.

First up in the Geforce RTX 5000 series is the flagship Geforce RTX 5090 which is based on the 744mm² huge GB202-300 circuit. The amount of CUDA cores takes a step up from the predecessor RTX 4090’s 16,384 to a breathtaking 21,760. The amount of RT cores increases to 170 from 128, but one of the most talked about lifts in terms of specifications is the step up to a full 32 GB of graphics memory.

The memory type is GDDR7 over a 512-bit wide memory bus with a total memory bandwidth of 1,792 GB/s. The card is equipped with a total power budget of 575 W in the basic version, which can be increased to 600 W on the Founders Edition model if the power budget is increased to its maximum value of 104 percent. The clock frequency during boost is written to the relatively modest 2,400 MHz compared to the RTX 4090’s 2,520 MHz. However, as Blackwell is still manufactured with TSMC’s 4 nm manufacturing technology, it is not entirely unexpected. The improvements in energy efficiency promised with Blackwell will thus not come thanks to major improvements in the hardware but refined software.

A welcome addition is that the Displayport outputs have been upgraded to 2.1b along with the lone HDMI 2.1b connection. This paves the way for being able to make full use of future high-resolution screens at a high refresh rate. In addition, the PCI-Express communication has been upgraded to 5.0. However, it must be said that it should not mean any practical difference as the PCI-Express 4.0 bandwidth is not fully saturated.

As the circuit board has been properly compressed, the manufacturer has been able to center this behind a large vapor chamber which then continues the heat dissipation out to the heat pipes and cooling fins on either side of the circuit board. This leads to the card being cooled by double axial fans that blow air through the card. This also means that the manufacturer has been able to reduce the size of the card properly to only use two expansion slots. Power is supplied through a 16-pin 12VHPWR connector. However, Nvidia ships with an adapter for 4×8pin PCI-Express power supply if you have a power supply that does not support the ATX 3.1 standard.
