Working on the go is convenient, but sometimes a full desktop setup is necessary to really get things done. One of the standout features of Samsung Galaxy devices is Samsung DeX, which allows you to extend your device to a larger screen, delivering a desktop-like experience. Once connected to a display, you can multitask with ease, using multiple apps and resizing windows just like you would on a PC.
On newer Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S25 Series, Galaxy Z Fold6, and Galaxy Tab Active5, DeX can run wirelessly on any display that supports Miracast, providing a smoother, more seamless work experience.
For example, when you’re back in the office or working from a fixed location, you can use Samsung DeX with the Galaxy S25 to leverage advanced features like Night Video with Audio Erase for unmatched video creation. A desktop setup is also perfect for analyzing insights from translated call recordings, powered by Galaxy AI’s on-device transcripts and summaries.
The best part? With wireless DeX, you can skip the HDMI adapter and enjoy the flexibility of using your Samsung device with any Miracast-compatible display, including Samsung Smart TVs for presentations or other tasks requiring a larger screen.
For a more traditional desktop experience, Samsung’s Smart Monitor line supports wireless DeX as well. By pairing with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you can create an efficient workstation without needing a PC or any cables.
Even without a Smart Monitor or Miracast-enabled display, you can still use DeX by connecting your device via an HDMI to USB-C adapter or directly to a USB-C monitor.
But if you do want to take advantage of wireless DeX, here’s how to set it up on your Samsung Smart Monitor:
Setting up Samsung DeX on your Samsung Smart Monitor
- Start by plugging in your Smart Monitor and powering it on.
- Use the remote or the monitor’s physical buttons to select the “Source” option, then choose “Screen Mirroring.”
- On your Galaxy device, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the quick menu, and tap the “DeX” option.
- In the DeX menu, select “DeX on TV or Monitor.”
- Your Galaxy device will search for available displays. When your Smart Monitor appears, tap on it.
- You’re all set! The DeX logo will show up on your Smart Monitor, and you can start working.
Adding a keyboard and mouse
- Put your keyboard and mouse in pairing mode, following the manufacturers’ instructions.
- Open the Settings app on your smartphone and navigate to the Bluetooth menu.
- Select the keyboard and mouse from your Bluetooth menu.
- You may be asked to type in a verification code on your keyboard to complete pairing.
Once paired, you can use your DeX-enabled device to work in your favorite productivity apps, including Google Workspace, Cisco Webex, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Remote Desktop, Citrix Workspace, Zoom Cloud Meetings and more.
Samsung DeX vs. screen mirroring
You may have seen other smartphones that offer screen mirroring, but screen mirroring functions quite differently from DeX. With typical screen mirroring, your device’s screen is duplicated on another display — still retaining its original shape and layout.
The Galaxy S25 boasts a display that truly enhances your content, paired with an AI scaler for the most realistic images yet. With DeX, you can connect to a second display for a full PC-like experience, while still using your smartphone independently. These dual screens allow you to do more than just share presentations or media; you can work freely, just like on a desktop.
Additionally, if you want to boost your productivity without needing an external display, Samsung Galaxy tablets like the Tab S10 Ultra or Tab S10+ can seamlessly switch to a DeX experience with just one tap.
DeX works hand in hand with the Galaxy S25’s features, enabling you to write, search, and access content across your smartphone, PC, tablet, or TV. With Samsung DeX, you can stay productive no matter where you are, taking your essential tasks on the go. And thanks to new wireless options, DeX makes it even easier to stay on top of your work throughout the day.
